Cllr. Ed Bridges and Cllr. Cathy Pearcy have welcomed plans to improve Parkfield Place

Welsh Liberal Democrats in Gabalfa ward have expressed their delight that their long-running campaign for improvements for Parkfield Place has finally paid off.

Local councillors, Ed Bridges and Cathy Pearcy, have for years been calling on the council to improve the grass area in the middle of the street and install better lighting and access. Cllr. Bridges asked a question at December's council meeting making it clear that residents had endured a long wait and were keen to see the proposed Environmental Improvement Scheme implemented.

Ed and Cathy have now learnt that the improvements have been given the green light and work should begin as early as the summer to improve access, lighting and parking, and the grass area in the middle of the road will also be restored and protected.

Cllr. Cathy Pearcy said: "The council has now decided it is happy with the latest draft of the scheme and is ready to consult with residents on the issue. The council will be carrying out a door-to-door consultation on the plans and giving affected residents copies of the proposals for the street and explaining how they can get in touch with any comments they may have."

Lib Dem Assembly Candidate for Cardiff North, Ed Bridges, added: "From what we have seen of the plans, we think residents will be very pleased with what the council has drawn up. All the items residents had said they wanted improved are included. While some trees will have to be removed under the plans, these will be replaced so that the appearance of the area is maintained and improved. It's really good news and the result of a very long campaign."

The Gabalfa Focus Team will be delighted to hear your thoughts on the plans when these are distributed, and are very happy to take forward any issues you may have with what is proposed.
